After a disappointing end to the men’s volleyball campaign, India will now have their complete focus on the women’s team as they will start their tournament run on September 30. India finished sixth at men’s volleyball having lost 0-3 to their arch-rivals Pakistan. The neighbouring side dominated all three sets as they outplayed India in less than an hour and a half. India have one more shot at volleyball history as they field their women’s team this Saturday in hopes of securing a podium finish.
Women’s volleyball was added to the Asian Games back in Jakarta in 1962. However, India didn’t feature at the event until 1982 when the Asian Games returned to Delhi. India are yet to win a medal at the event and Hangzhou just might be the perfect place to make history.

India’s campaign for glory is going to be far from an easy one. They have been placed alongside China and DPR Korea in Pool A. China have secured eight gold medals at this event in Asian Games history. It will be interesting to see if India can overcome what possibly is their biggest challenge in the group stage itself.
