Free “Dames at Sea” Performance for Military and Veterans

“DAMES AT SEA” TAP DANCE FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL AND

VETERANS   UNDER THE GUNS ON THE BATTLESHIP NEW JERSEY

CAST MEMBERS FROM THE MUSICAL, WHICH TAKES PLACE ON A BATTLESHIP,

WILL PRESENT EXCERPTS ON AN ACTUAL BATTLESHIP!

BUCKS COUNTY PLAYHOUSE PRESENTS THIS FIZZY AND JOYOUS MUSICAL

THROUGH SEPTEMBER 11

When:    Tuesday, August 16 – 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Where:   Battleship New Jersey Memorial & Museum

100 Clinton Street

Camden Waterfront

What:     Fantasy and reality collide when cast members from “Dames at Sea,” a show about

a Broadway musical performed on a battleship, present excerpts from a real Broadway

musical on the deck of America’s most decorated battleship – the Battleship New Jersey!

An audience of celebrated veterans, including Captain Walt Urban USN (ret), and school

groups touring the ship, will see excerpts from cast members Julie Kavanagh, Drew King,

Daniel Plimpton and Daisy Wright, who are currently appearing in “Dames at Sea” at

Bucks County Playhouse.

All cast members, along with producer Josh Fiedler, are available for interview.

About DAMES AT SEA:

A trio of Tony-nominated artists, Randy Skinner, Anna Louizos and David C. Woolard, recreate

their work for the Broadway revival of “Dames at Sea,” with the light-hearted, dance-centric

musical at Bucks County Playhouse through September 11. “Dames at Sea” is a tap-happy

musical, in the tradition of 42nd Street, that spoofs the high-spirited movie musicals of the 1930s.

Ruby steps off a bus from Utah and into her first Broadway show, but hours before the opening

night curtain is to rise, the cast learns their theater is being demolished. So, Ruby and the cast,

with the help of some adoring sailors, come up with an ingenious plan to ensure that the show

goes on.

Background of USS New Jersey:

The Battleship New Jersey is the nation’s most decorated battleship in naval history with 19 campaign

and battle stars. According to the ship’s War Log from 1943-1945, the ship sailed over 200,000 miles

at that point in time through combat waters and made strikes against the Japanese throughout the

South Pacific and beyond. During her long stay in the Pacific and her many encounters with the enemy,

the ship was never hit by an enemy shell nor was a member of the crew been wounded or killed by the

enemy. Many say the USS New Jersey is a lucky ship!

The Battleship New Jersey Memorial and Museum is open to the public seven days a week from

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
