In 1997, the New Jersey Devils and Montreal Canadiens met in the first round for their first and only playoff series. In Game 1, Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur became the fourth goaltender in NHL history to score a goal, marking only the second time that a goalie had scored a goal in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Devils would go on to win the series 4-1.
