Rossini’s IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA – composed at the age of 24, is considered the finest comic opera in existence! From start to finish it is marvelously crafted, brilliantly inventive, and uproariously funny. The libretto is based on Le Marriage de Figaro of Baumarchais. The setting is Seville in the 18th Century. Count Almaviva, a Spanish grandee, has arrived in Seville disguised as a poor student named Lindoro, in order to woo Rosina, the ward of the pompous Dr. Bartolo, who plans to marry her himself. Almaviva enlists the help of Figaro, the barber, in winning Rosina’s affections. Together they trick Dr. Bartolo and the Count marries Rosina.
New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera presents a full-scale, traditional Italian production of Rossini’s popular comic opera IL BARBIERE DI SIVGLIA with international soloists, beautiful sets and costumes, chorus and orchestra of NJ area artists and English super titles projected above the stage.

About VERISMO OPERA
Founded in 1989, the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera has been an integral part of the region’s classical music culture. Originally led by Metropolitan Opera luminary Lucine Amara, the nonprofit organization has delivered a rich, grand opera experience for performers and viewers for over 30 years. Verismo Opera has provided performing opportunities for musicians and artists through its semi-annual productions at NJ venues and concerts held in community settings.
In 2022, after 32 years, Verismo Opera moved forward under new management with a new and exciting focus on presenting traditional stagings of the most popular operas and other musical presentations that honor the vision of the great European composers. European opera impresario Giorgio Lalov whose history in staging opera now spans over 35 years in Europe and the USA, has now entered the position of Artistic Director, General Manager and Stage Director, casting the soloists and staging the operas with international soloists that are American based. The chorus and orchestra of Verismo Opera are all NJ area artists and musicians.Event Details:
